sonnen Launches an Outdoor Home Battery Solution in Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, Australia – 1 December 2021sonnen, one of the global market leaders in smart residential energy storage today announced the launch of sonnenBatterie Evo, the company’s first outdoor home battery solution developed specifically for Australia and New Zealand.

The sonnenBatterie Evo is an innovative, fully integrated AC coupled storage system that has an IP56 outdoor rating for the battery to be installed both outdoors or indoors and complies with the AS/NZS 5139 standard.

German designed and engineered, this is the first storage system that contains a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery module that was customised by sonnen. It has 10kWh of usable storage capacity and it is made up of two fully usable 5.0kWh battery modules.

sonnen has optimised the performance of the sonnenBatterie Evo by creating a proprietary intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) and sonnenInverter. The sonnenBatterie Evo includes backup power that will support households when the grid is not functioning.

With home batteries playing an increasingly important role in demand response programs or connecting to a network for Virtual Power Plants in Australia, the BMS ensures the voltage and temperature of a battery is performing at its peak and can support charging or discharging incidents to maintain the grid when it is needed.

Nathan Dunn, Chief Commercial Officer of sonnenGroup and Managing Director of sonnen Australia said, “The sonnenBatterie Evo is simple to install and service with our pre-wired and pre-terminated home battery solution. It is built for the great outdoors with a smart and compact design that makes it suitable for both outdoor and indoor installations.

We’ve listened to our customers and installer partners and created the sonnenBatterie Evo in response to their needs. By reducing the complexity of designing a home battery system, sonnen is creating value for installers and giving them more time to focus on selling a sonnen home battery instead of installing a product.”

The harsh and unpredictably hot summer weather, rainy seasons and floods that have become increasingly common in Australia and New Zealand making backup power a critical feature for homeowners with rooftop photovoltaic (PV) solar systems and home batteries.

With the sonnenBatterie Evo, backup power has been included with 5kW continuous and 7kW surge capacity. This provides power to run more circuits in a backup mode to cover more lighting and essential appliances in a home in the event of a blackout.

The battery comes with a Black Start function that can ‘wake’ up an AC coupled PV system even when the grid is down. A sonnenBatterie can utilise the energy from the directly connected solar system to ensure households have power even when the grid is down.

To provide greater value to sonnen customers, installers can recommend sonnenFlat or sonnenConnect, innovative energy offers that are available exclusively to the sonnenCommunity.

As a sonnenBatterie owner, customers can join sonnen’s virtual power plant (VPP). This is where their battery is connected to hundreds of other home battery storage systems to make one powerful source of energy and to provide grid stability in times of need.

sonnenBatterie Evo owners will get access to an updated my sonnen App and customer portal offering an improved customer experience to monitor and manage their home battery.

sonnenBatterie Evo is backed with a 10 year warranty local service with local sales and support and it will be available from Q1/2022 through authorised distribution partners. For further information, visit sonnen.com.au
