Queensland Battery Booster Rebate Scheme

The Queensland Battery Booster Rebate Scheme has launched in early 2024 and will provide eligible Queensland households with a rebate to assist with the purchase and installation of an approved residential solar battery system.

Eligible Queensland homeowners can access a grant of up to $4,000 per household to buy and install a solar battery system for use with a new or an existing rooftop solar system. The Queensland Battery Booster Rebate Scheme opened for applications on 12 February 2024. As the program will close once the allocated funding is exhausted, claim your rebate while it’s still available.

The Queensland Government has implemented the initiative to lower energy costs and assist Queensland households with the rising cost of living. The initiative is a collaboration between the Queensland and Federal Governments, with $24 million allocated to the program that will help Queensland households offset the costs associated with installing an approved battery system.

Eligibility for the Battery Booster program

As with all solar battery rebate schemes, households must meet minimum requirements to be eligible for the Battery Booster program, including the purchase of an approved battery system and minimum solar PV system size. Full details on eligibility requirements for the Queensland Battery Booster Rebate Scheme are now available, with the Queensland Government advising that households must meet the below criteria to be eligible for the program:

  • The combined annual taxable income of the household must not exceed $180,000
  • The battery must be purchased after the program opening date and after the applicant has lodged an application and received conditional approval
  • The battery must be 6 kWh or larger and on the list of program-approved products
  • The (new or existing) residential solar PV system must be 5kW or higher
  • The home battery system must be installed by an approved installer.

Why install home battery storage?

With over 300 days of sunshine a year in the Sunshine State, Queensland households have ample opportunity to harness the power of the sun by installing a rooftop solar PV system and home battery. Not only does installing a home battery system help to reduce your home’s carbon footprint, but it also makes great sense financially in an era of escalating energy prices. What’s more, there are many additional benefits to home battery storage, like keeping your home powered during a blackout – an important consideration here in Queensland during storm season!

Here are three of the many reasons why eligible households should consider applying for the Queensland Battery Booster Rebate Scheme to lower the costs associated with the purchase of an approved home solar battery.

  • Emissions reduction: Using solar reduces your reliance on grid electricity, helping to lower the impact of your activities and lifestyle on the environment and reduce your carbon footprint
  • Energy independence: Installing a home battery can help to deliver greater independence from the grid, reducing exposure to rising energy prices and lowering your electricity bills
  • Blackout prevention: With a backup power feature, home batteries like the sonnenBatterie Evo empower you to keep lighting and appliances powered at home during a blackout.
